After St. Louis Park High, I graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield with a history major and a teaching credential. I received my only job offer that fall in Preston in southeastern Minnesota. I taught social studies for 35 years in Preston-Fountain and Fillmore Central schools (same school, just merged together with Harmony). In the 10 years since retirement, my wife and I have traveled around the United States and Europe, including a winter sojourn each year to Hawaii. With my wife, we have hosted 28 foreign exchange students at our house, and have many great memories from doing that. Send David a MessageSend David a Message

The Sky is my home. Home in the sense of safe, comfortable, and familiar. It's hard to say how many miles I've traveled in my lifetime. 200,000 maybe 400,000 I don't know exactly I've never totaled them up. But I've certainly fallen into the category of mobile.

Looking up is where I come back to reality. Skyward glances take me home. No matter where I am, what I'm doing, how old I am, or who I'm with-the Sky is always the Sky. Ever changing yet always dependable. It's always light during the day and dark at night. The sun is either blazing, smiling and open or it's sleeping, taking a little nap behind the clouds. The sun is always there for me.

...Night. Ah Night! Brings out the firmament, the celestial phenomenon. The Universe on display, twinkling in all of it's wonderment. Where's the moon tonight? How about Jupiter, Saturn, hey there's Mars. Orion and friends. Hey Guys, It's Stan your greatest fan.

The Sky is always there. Even if it's cloudy or foggy or I'm in the heart of the city with glaring mercury vapor lamps, the Sky, the stars, and all of their glory are there…for me. I feel them. I know they're there. My talisman, benchmark with reality, window of truth. Always suggesting tranquillity and a universal point of view.

Where ever my busy mind may take me, the sun, the stars, the Sky always takes me home.

Fifty years ago in February 1968, just months before graduation, my family moved from St. Louis Park, Mn., back to our home area of Detroit, Michigan.  After four years at St. Louis Park High and one year at Westwood Junior High, I missed walking the stage with all of you.  I completed my senior year in Oak Park, Michigan and received my diploma with a class of strangers.

Thirty years ago I returned to our Twenty Year Reunion.  It was an excellent opportunity to meet up with many of you that I shared classes with and or established friendships that extended out of school.  Just like many of you, I missed out on seeing classmates that could not make the reunion as well as those who had passed on (to greener pastures.)

Thirty years ago, I attended the reunion with my husband Richard (we will be married 34 years in July.)  We were struggling to have a baby, not unlike some of you, and in 1990, we were finally blessed with our son Alex (who will be 28 in August.)  I also have a son from my previous marriage, and my oldest is a practicing Attorney in Chicago.  Neither of my sons is married, therefore no grandbabies for me.  Alex and I work together in his internet radio station, newclevelandradio.net where many of you can tune in most days to hear one of my many shows or relisten to our podcasts.

Following graduation, I attended Eastern Michigan University where I majored in Communications and Broadcasting.  I married my first husband in 1971, put him through Dental School, and in 1980 we divorced.  We shared custody, and I became a part-time mom even though my heart and soul wanted it to be full-time.  I met my current husband Richard at a mutual friend’s wedding in 1981 and as of today (as I write this, June 13, 2018) we have been together for thirty-seven adventurous years.

Thanks to Facebook I have been able to connect to many of you, and I feel blessed that we have this opportunity to share and care for each other.  On a sad note, I must add I will not be attending the reunion as financially it doesn’t fit the budget with the many other obligations we have at this time.  As the entertainment program producer for newclevelandradio.net, I have several concert trips planned, including going to my favorite place, Saratoga Springs, NY.

For those of you who may not be on Facebook and want to continue sharing, please feel free to email me anytime at kikione1@gmail.com

After high school I went on to get a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of MN. I practiced for about 20 years in various settings, always with a focus on dreamwork. (I led dream groups for over 20 years, wrote two colums on dreams for newspapers, and still offer dreamwork to individuals.) But I became disillusioned with how insurance was interfering with what I viewed as "soul" work, so I gave up my practice and moved to North Carolina in 2001 where I finished a book on how to journey safely through our health care system, and began my life as a fiber artist. Eventually, my love for books took me to the local library (I worked in our high school library, if you recall), where I have become the main cataloger; I also continue my work with fiber. (You can see some of my work at InnerLandscaping.com; a link will take you to my etsy shop.) I am social media avoidant, and created a Facebook account primarily to communicate with my two goddaughters, one of whom helped create Cafe Ena in Minneapolis, while the other is becoming a talented photographer. I live with my two cats, RastaFyre and Luna, in the mountains of Western North Carolina, but am considering a return to the upper midwest at some point in the future. Alas, I will not make it to the reunion; my trips north always happen around Thanksgiving. Best wishes to everyone. Send Laurel a MessageSend Laurel a Message
