I am looking forward very much to our reunion. I’m a strong believer that one of the things that roots us comfortably in the present is connection to the past. As far as personal history, after graduating high school I spent three years playing second base for the Minnesota Twins under the assumed name of Rod Carew (a name I appropriated from a favorite Hemmingway novel). Then I devoted myself to achieving each of the adult milestones 5-10 years later than is typical. I completed my undergrad degree in 1976 and a doctorate in counseling psychology in 1985. I married Renee Joergens in 1990 and she has been my wife, lover, partner, muse and stabilizing force since then. I probably wouldn’t be here without her. Hopefully, I’ve also been useful to her in some way. We have two amazing and quirky kids – our son Phoenix is a junior-and-a-half at Univ of Oregon in interior architecture and our daughter Becky is a senior in pre-physical therapy at George Washington Univ. After 27 years as a practicing psychologist I now work as National Director for Care Integration for a company that provides telepsychiatry services in 22 states. After so long at clinical practice, this is an exciting and stimulating set of daily activities. And it’s a damn good thing too. With two kids in college, I’m likely to be working until I’m 100. I remain true to my favorite tune from ’68 – and creed to this day: Born to be Wild.

See you in September.

Hello Classmates!  I will not be attending the reunion, but wanted to send an update.  I currently live in Prescott Valley, AZ.  I spent 35 years in Brookfield, WI and 3 years in Orchard Park, NY.  Married for 18 years then divorced, I have two children.  Lori is in the banking business. She and her husband have  our grandson, Josef, and live in Austin, TX.  Christopher is a photographer in California.

I graduated from the U of MN in Medical Technology in ‘73.  During those laboratory years I ran offices for Internal Medicine  and Oncology  practices.  I loved saving lives and fighting disease.  I’m retired now and my partner of 14 years, Michele, is a blacksmith and metalsmith designer.   As a hobby we grow our own food.  It’s genetic for me as both of my parents were farmers and owned the Family Food Store on Excelsior Blvd. for 38 years.  We grow heirloom produce and have won more blue ribbons at our county fair than anyone else for five years in a row.  I’d like to be posing with the WSOP trophy and be the first woman to win the tournament, but I’m still working on that goal.  I wish everyone much happiness and good health for the years ahead!!

After St. Louis Park High, I graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield with a history major and a teaching credential. I received my only job offer that fall in Preston in southeastern Minnesota. I taught social studies for 35 years in Preston-Fountain and Fillmore Central schools (same school, just merged together with Harmony). In the 10 years since retirement, my wife and I have traveled around the United States and Europe, including a winter sojourn each year to Hawaii. With my wife, we have hosted 28 foreign exchange students at our house, and have many great memories from doing that. Send David a MessageSend David a Message

Hello Classmates. Happy 50th! I think 1968 was a pretty special year, and isn't it amazing we're pretty much all turning 68 in 2018. Hard to believe that much time has gone by, but reading your profiles convinces me that so many SLP people have done great things and traveled all over the world in those 50 years. Congratulations!
I graduated as an aerospace engineer from the U with fellow classmates Frank Tsuchiya and Ira Golden, but unlike Frank, I didn't stay with that career. Married Shala Dahlgren(SLP '73) in Dec. 1974 and have stayed together all these years. After leaving an engineering job with the Dept of the Army in St. Louis, Mo we moved back to MN and I found my calling in business; first managing businesses for others, and then owning my own small business in Buffalo, MN for the last 21 years. Sold the business in Jan 2017 and have been enjoying retirement since. Shala is still working (she says it's her semi-retirement job, but she is now the head grower for Dundee Nursery - she really DOES have a green thumb!) so I try to keep busy around the house. We love to fish from our Hobie tandem kayak, trying to hit all 200 lakes in Wright County, and I keep active biking, walking, and working out at the health club. We are so lucky to be healthy! I am the PROUD father of daughter Avery, who is 26 and has been teaching English in Karatsu, Japan for going on 4 years. She graduated from Global College (LIU, New York) and literally spent a year traveling/studying around the world. She has given me the itch to travel and we have been to Japan in '16, Kenya last year, and heading for Germany this October. Life is good! Thanks to the reunion planners. Special shout-out to Sid Wood for keeping me up to date on SLP. Sid and I re-connected a few years back and have been remembering our Fern Hill Elementary and Skippy Little League days. Waaaaay back!!
Looking forward to remembering old times with a few more of "the class of '68"!

On June 5th 1968, as I watched 764 kids cross the stage to receive their diplomas, I remember thinking, there were so many I was sure I had never seen before in my life. Yet, these were my classmates!
I also have a vivid memory of our all night party following graduation. I was in the pool, and word came through that Robert Kennedy had been assassinated These were confusing, sometimes frightening years to launch ourselves into the world!
At the same time, I have good memories of some incredible teachers from my years of education in St. Louis Park. My Jr. High French teacher, I don't remember her name, instilled in me a love for the language that continues to this day. I am a member of the Alliance Francaise of Cincinnati and speak and study French.
I remember a very special English teacher from Central Junior High who read aloud large chunks of Dickens’ works, switching up her voice and accent to match the characters. She opened the door for me to fall in love with reading and storytelling. I am finishing up a historical novel for upper elementary based on growing up in SLP.
I also fondly remember Mr. Loegering. He believed in me long before I had the courage to believe in myself.
After graduation I attended Hamline University where I majored in French and Elementary Education. Career paths for women were narrow. I met my future husband, Glenn, a native of Massachusetts at Hamline. We married young. I taught for a short time, but loved focusing my energies on our 2 boys born in ’75 and ’78.
My husband’s career in the life insurance industry has involved lots of national and international travel and I have been able to accompany him many times. Our favorite trips involved visits with our Danish and Scottish relatives in their homelands.
We moved to Cincinnati in 1988 where our 2 youngest, twins, a boy and a girl were born.
3 years ago I began studying oil painting. I really love it! Since some of my pieces have been sold, I can officially call myself a “professional artist!”
Perhaps like some of you, my husband and I find ourselves the center cog of 4 generations—juggling 90 something parents, figuring out retirement, launching adult children, and welcoming new grandbabies. It can be exhausting and challenging, yet provide wonderful opportunities to leave a legacy of love and joy. It’s a choice.
I have never been to a reunion before and am looking forward to reconnecting with friends and especially seeing some teachers.
